Stomp and clap

Ms. Lisa Mary the PYP music teacher taught students about beats and rhythm. Students clapped and stomped out the beats and rhythm, later they worked in groups to create their own music and demonstrated the rhythm and beats using their hands and feet.

Sharing our diversity

Students shared an artifact from their culture with the class. They explained the significance of the artifact to their culture. Relevant questions were asked and were answered by the students making the presentation.

Dance and Culture

Ms. Shylaja spoke to students about dance and culture. She explained to students about when dance started and also about the different styles of dance from across India. Ms. Shylaja  demonstrated

animal actions using dance movements on popular demand from students. She also enacted a dance drama to connect with an activity that students had as a part of their formative assessment. Ms. Shylaja ended the session with a small piece of Bharata Natyam dance. It was a fabulous learning experience for students. Afterwards they formed small groups, chose a folk story, and came up with a dance drama of their own.
