Exhibition 2016 - Sharing The Planet

Exhibition - Stage 1

Tuning - In
Students are given the opportunity to revisit the PYP Essential elements. They learned to develop good research skills, communication skills, note taking skills and skills of conducting good interviews. KIS teachers ran sessions on the above topics. We also had members of the community talk to students on a range of topics connected to Sharing The Planet - this will form the basis for  students to create the central idea.

Ms. Barbara spoke to students about the history of Kodaikanal

Mr. Maloney spoke to students about the impact of development on the environment and the urgent need for action.

Ms. Ann Peck demonstrated the ill effects of smoke pollution emitted from wood fire stoves on families. She also demonstrated the use of smokeless stoves as a better option.

Ms. Janani spoke about endangered animals and the reasons for species to be endangered/threatened.

Ms. Nishita spoke to students about the early settlers of Kodaikanal and how they interacted with the environment for their survival. She also spoke about how caste systems developed, the discrimination of the lower castes and issues that it presents in our communities.

Developing good Research Skills - Ms. Vasu

How to conduct interviews - Ms. Sumitha H.R. Manager

Creating the exhibition blog - Ms. Jeeva

Journal writing- Ms. Alpana

Note taking strategies- Ms. Zita.

Developing the Central Idea
Working in groups students used the visible thinking mats to brainstorm their ideas. These ideas were then grouped under different issues. Commonly occurring issues were segregated and discussed. The central idea was developed based on the key issues.
