Finding Out - Stage 2
 
 
Field trip to Bob and Tanya's Nursery - The flora group learned about the role of the sholas and grass lands in our (Palani Hills) tropical rainforest ecosystem. They also learned about the different species of plants in Kodaikanal. Some introduced and some native. Students had many questions which were answered by Bob and Tanya.













 
 
 
Students research for their first line of inquiry - Importance of flora and fauna and the uses of flora and fauna. They created posters, models, skit and song to demonstrate their understanding.

 Skype interview with ecologist Dr. Ulmar Graffe. Students asked him questions about the causes and effects of imbalances in the ecosystem. They also asked him about the different actions that can be taken to help the environment.


Mentor meetings - PYP teachers and parent mentors help guide and facilitate student inquiry.







Students begin work on the second line of inquiry. Causes and effects of imbalances on flora and fauna. Discussing, researching and coming up with different ways to demonstrate their knowledge.
